A dodgy Gala Bingo employee has been sent to jail for 9 months by Newcastle Crown Court, the 29 year old guilty man who was employed by Gala Bingo as a caller and team leader was jailed for rigging two bingo games.  With the help of two accomplices Christian Grant set about defrauding Gala Bingo by tampering with the random number generator machine whilst he was calling bingo numbers in two games.  The first incident happened in September last year with the second occurring in March this year. The crime only came to light after a concerned bingo player complained to the Gala Bingo hall management about suspicious goings on in a bingo game she had been playing.

Gala Bingo, to their credit took the matter very seriously and suspended the accused man and his girlfriend, Samantha Temple – a claim checker at the same Gala Bingo hall and also the winner of one of the suspected games. The second accomplice was an ex-girlfriend of Christian Grant who had won a £7,830 Gala Bingo prize in the previous year, a Miss Nandi Ndebele.  Grant and both of the women pleaded guilty to the charge of Conspiracy to defraud, Grant received the jail term and the two women received a more lenient sentence of community supervision order with Ndebele receiving a further order of 100 hours of unpaid work.

Gala Bingo sacked both Temple and Grant as soon as they found that there was sufficient evidence for charges to be brought by Police.  The guilty pair have lived together with their child receiving benefits since being discharged by Gala Bingo. All three of the accused have stated that they stole the money from Gala Bingo to clear debts, Grant to his credit asserted that the idea was all his and he had  encouraged the other two defendants to assist him with the deception.
